Gorilla Trekking Tips

Tour Plan

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly received and transferred to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Depending on your arrival time, you may opt for an excursion to Mabamba Swamp, famous for the rare shoebill stork (optional at US$80 per person; US$100 for solo travelers).

Your gorilla trekking adventure begins with an early pick-up (by 7:30 AM) from your hotel in Kampala/Entebbe or directly from the airport. You will drive southwest towards Bwindi Impenetrable Forest via Masaka.

You will stop at the Equator for photos and a short break, then continue to Igongo Cultural Village for lunch before proceeding to Bwindi. This dense rainforest is rich in biodiversity and home to mountain gorillas, birds, and other wildlife.

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before beginning your gorilla trekking experience. Accompanied by ranger guides, you will hike through the forest in search of a gorilla family.

The trek can take between 1 to 8 hours depending on their location. Once found, you will spend one hour observing and photographing these gentle giants.

After the trek, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi, the second deepest lake in Africa, known for its beautiful terraced hills—often called the “Switzerland of Africa.” Enjoy optional activities such as a boat ride, swimming, bird watching, or simply relaxing by the lake.
