What Makes This Safari Different
Six parks in 11 days is the honest version of a Kenya Tanzania safari. Many itineraries on this route cut corners: two nights in the Mara and straight to the border, missing Lake Nakuru and Amboseli entirely. This itinerary does not cut corners. You get the full Kenya circuit before the border, then three solid Tanzania parks after it.
The resident wildlife in the Masai Mara is the foundation of the Kenya section, not the Great Migration. Between July and October, the Migration river crossings are a spectacular additional feature. In every other month, the lion prides, cheetah families, elephant herds, and the permanent river life deliver game viewing that stands on its own.
Lake Nakuru adds Kenya’s best rhino sanctuary. Amboseli adds elephants beneath Kilimanjaro. Only then does the route cross into Tanzania. That sequence matters: you arrive at the border having already seen a full Kenya safari, not a rushed two-day preview.
Bienvenido approach: We select accommodation that delivers the safari experience honestly. Budget tier means a comfortable tented camp rather than a lodge with a swimming pool. The vehicle, guide, park access, and game drive quality are the same across all tiers.
Tour Description
Eleven days is the right amount of time for this route and not a day more than necessary. Two nights in the Masai Mara. One transit night in Nakuru town adjacent to Lake Nakuru National Park. One night in Amboseli. Border crossing on day 6. Then Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro across the Tanzania section, returning to Arusha before the final drive back to Nairobi on day 11.
The vehicle exchange at Namanga is standard on this circuit. Your Kenya guide sees you to the border and through immigration. Your Tanzania guide and vehicle pick up on the other side. The process is managed, not complicated. Packed lunches are provided on the border day so you do not stop unnecessarily.
Accommodation in Arusha on the night of arrival is at the Charity Hotel, which gives the group a comfortable base before heading into the Tanzania parks the following morning.
Tipping Guide (per person): Guide: USD 10-20/day x 10 days = approximately USD 100-200 total
Camp staff (shared): USD 5-10/day x 10 days = approximately USD 50-100 total
Suggested total tip budget per person: USD 150-300
Tips are discretionary. They are meaningful to guides and camp staff and appreciated.

Best Time to Visit
Six parks across two countries means every month has something working in your favour. Some months are clearly easier for first-time visitors than others.
| Month Window | Kenya Highlights | Tanzania Highlights | Overall Assessment |
| July to October | Mara river crossings possible; Nakuru and Amboseli year-round excellent | Serengeti dry season; herd movement; Ngorongoro always productive | Peak season. Book ahead. Best overall conditions. |
| January to March | Excellent predators; best Kilimanjaro visibility at Amboseli | Southern Serengeti calving: hundreds of thousands of calves born over a concentrated window; extraordinary predator action | Outstanding value. Lower rates. Our most recommended period. |
| November to December | Good game throughout; lush green Mara | Good conditions across Tanzania parks | Good shoulder option with lower rates. |
| April to May | Some Mara road challenges | Some Serengeti tracks impassable; Ngorongoro and Tarangire accessible | Low season. Budget option. Experienced travellers only. |

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the group joining format mean in practice?
You book individual spaces on a shared departure. You do not need to know other guests in advance. Groups are a maximum of 8 guests per vehicle so everyone has a window seat. You travel with the same vehicle and guide on each country section. The shared cost makes this itinerary significantly more affordable than a private vehicle for the same route.
What happens at the Namanga border crossing on day 6?
Your Kenya guide drives you to Namanga and assists with the crossing. You walk between the two immigration offices with your passport, complete entry forms, and have your documents ready. A vehicle exchange happens at the border. Your Tanzania guide takes over on the other side. Crossing times vary. Have documents easily accessible and carry some USD cash as a backup. Packed lunch is provided so you do not need to stop for food on the border day.
Why does the safari return to Nairobi on day 11 rather than ending in Arusha?
This itinerary is a full round-trip from Nairobi, which is more practical for international travellers departing from Kenya. The day 11 drive from Arusha to Nairobi via Namanga takes seven to eight hours. Depart early after breakfast to arrive in Nairobi before dark. If you prefer to end in Arusha, contact us to arrange this.
Is the Lake Naivasha boat ride worth doing?
It depends on your interests. The boat ride gives 45 minutes on the water with hippo sightings, African fish eagles, and good waterbirds. It is a pleasant break in a transit day and adds a different type of wildlife experience to a safari that is otherwise land-based. It is not essential. If you have seen the Naivasha area before or simply prefer to push on to Nakuru, skip it.
Can I join for only the Kenya or only the Tanzania section?
Yes. Contact us before booking to confirm partial joining availability and pricing. Kenya only covers days 1 to 5, ending at Namanga or Nairobi. Tanzania only starts from Arusha on day 6 evening. We manage the logistics of joining or leaving at the border.
What is the Charity Hotel in Arusha?
The Charity Hotel is a comfortable, well-located Arusha hotel that serves as the group’s base on the night of border crossing arrival and the final Tanzania night before the Nairobi return. It is included across all accommodation tiers on this itinerary for operational consistency.
Is the Great Migration guaranteed?
No. The Migration follows a reliable annual pattern driven by rainfall and grass growth, but exact timing varies. We track current Serengeti herd positions before each departure. The resident wildlife in the Masai Mara and Serengeti delivers excellent game viewing in every month regardless of Migration presence.

Common Safari Planning Mistakes to Avoid
Mistake 1: Arriving in Nairobi on departure day
Fix: Build a buffer night in Nairobi before the safari starts. International flights delay. Missing the day 1 group departure disrupts the full 11-day circuit and is difficult to recover mid-route.
Mistake 2: Not planning for the day 11 Arusha to Nairobi drive
Fix: The return drive is seven to eight hours. If you have an international flight departing Nairobi on day 11, discuss timing with your guide on day 10. An early morning Arusha departure is essential for evening Nairobi flights.
Mistake 3: Not having documents easily accessible at the Namanga border
Fix: The border crossing is smoother when documents are immediately accessible. Passport, yellow fever certificate, and visa documentation should be in a day bag, not buried in a main bag. The vehicle exchange also happens at the border, so repack your day bag before arriving.
Mistake 4: Expecting Migration river crossings in every month at the Masai Mara
Fix: The Mara river crossings occur July to October. Outside this window the Migration is in Tanzania. The Mara’s resident wildlife is excellent year-round regardless, but go in with accurate expectations about what you will see on any given month.
Mistake 5: Skipping the Kilimanjaro morning window at Amboseli
Fix: Kilimanjaro is visible from Amboseli in the morning before cloud builds. By mid-morning it is usually gone for the day. Tell your guide on day 4 arrival that Kilimanjaro is a priority. If you sleep in and go out at nine, the window is likely already closed.
